About me

I am Valeria Graffeo, a senior developer and consultant at thoughtbot. I am from Pisa, Italy.

My expertise is Ruby on Rails for web applications, but I am happy to work in other parts of the stack, and using other languages: frontend, backend, mobile development, some SRE.

This blog is a journal to keep track of the things I learn, and re-learn and remember every day.

WIP: Eventually I’ll add back my old projects, if they’re still fun to look at.

How I got into coding

I spent the 2010s in the USA. I used to live in Somerville and Medford, MA, in the Boston area. That’s where I started coding, after attending a General Assembly bootcamp in 2015.

During the pandemic I moved to Seattle, WA, and in 2021 I started working at thoughtbot.

After a couple of years in Seattle, I moved back to Pisa, Italy, with my Bostonian cat, Brucey.

What I do outside of coding

When I am not writing code, I am riding my road bike.

I ride in the amateurs categories for the FCI (Federazione Ciclistica Italiana).

I ride circuits, road races, crits. Occasionally granfondos.

I’ve been racing since ~2023-2024.

I am currently in the New MT Bike Team 2001 from Sesto Fiorentino.
